Summer School on Algebraic Curves

06/29/2026 - 07/03/2026

Description

The topic of algebraic curves is an area of mathematics that is fundamental in topology, complex analysis, number theory and differential geometry via Riemann Surfaces, especially elliptic curves, and, in turn, widely applied, for example, in cryptography and robotics, or in string theory. The summer School concentrates mostly on topological aspects, like classification and the genus formula for projective curves, algebraic knots and links, algebraic plane curve singularities, monodromy, Milnor number and fibers.

The summer school will consist of lectures and tutorials , aiming at advanced undergraduate / starting graduate students but interested PhD students are also welcome. We expect that participants would have a solid background in basic undergraduate mathematics (in particular, basic algebra, analysis, geometry and topology).

Location: Great Lecture Hall of the Alfred Renyi Institute of Mathematics (Realtanoda utca 13-15, Budapest, 1053)
